A Prayer for Peace

September 11, 2014

Thirteen years ago this country was attacked by terrorists who killed our brothers, sisters, co-workers, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, cousins, friends. Today we remember those we lost – those we knew and those we didn’t.

We saw the face of evil on September 11, 2001. The recent beheadings of Americans by ISIS remind us that evil continues to thrive and spread in parts of the world. Now, more than ever, praying for peace is needed.

The bishop of my diocese has requested that the following prayer be said at all masses in the diocese for the month of September.
Pass is on.
There is power in the collective voice of prayer.

O God, Father of all and lover of peace, through the intercession of
St. Michael, the archangel, be our protection against all evil.
Send your holy angels to protect and guide all those who suffer persecution.
Strengthen their faith and enliven their hope.
Deliver them speedily from all danger.
Remove indifference from our hearts and, with the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, inspire all world leaders to work effectively for peace in our day.
With your divine assistance, may we overcome violence with compassion,
war with peace, and thus establish your law of love and justice on this earth.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen
